National Gum Care Month
September is National Gum Care Month and our team cares about giving you the healthiest gums you’ve ever had. Here’s what you can do to help prevent gum disease:
- Brush twice a day
- Floss regularly
- Use a mouthwash or rinse
- Eat a healthy diet low in sugar and high in vitamins and minerals
- Come in for your regular dental hygiene appointments
Did you know that Modern Essence Dentistry offers a laser treatment to help kill bacteria in the mouth and reduce gum disease? We highly recommend adding this pain-free treatment to your regular, preventative cleaning for an extra clean, germ-free mouth.
What is an SRP and why do I need it?
If you’ve heard the term SRP but are not sure what it is, we’re here to help. SRP stands for “scaling and root planing.” This is a deep cleaning procedure in which your hygienist removes plaque and tartar from below the gum line and then smooths the tooth to help the gum reattach. Those that need SRP have deep pockets from inflammation. Plaque then gets stuck in these pockets and cannot be removed with regular brushing. If left untreated, gum disease can lead to bone and tooth loss.
Many Celebrations!
August brought us baby showers, back to school, and lots of masked faces. Congratulations to our dental assistant, Ivette, who gave birth to a beautiful baby girl! Maryann got crafty making masks for the office. Dr. Llanes shares his Illini Pride with an equally proud patient. And we celebrated a very special birthday - Helen’s! For more of what makes us awesome, check out our Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter!
Join Our Floss Challenge!
It’s not too late to jump on our 30 day floss challenge! From September 1st - 31st, we are celebrating our flossing followers on Instagram and Facebook. At the end of the month, one lucky participant will get an Amazon gift card!
Healthy Gums, Happy Grins
If you're confident, you smile more. If you smile more, you feel more confident. But what if you don't want to show your smile because you're embarrassed by what you see in the mirror? It becomes a psychological short-circuit with effects that may ripple through your life.
At Modern Essence Dentistry, watching the transformation in patients discovering the benefits of dental health highlights our days. But you may not realize all the parts that bring a smile together and the critical support given by the gums and bone. If the teeth are the lead actors, these components are the supporting roles. Without the strength and the beauty of healthy tissue, the smile falls flat.
Sometimes a new smile emerges from the simplest steps. Professional whitening, some gentle polishing, and reshaping of chipped edges can create an easy transformation. But every cosmetic enhancement requires a strong foundation to hold its value. Healthy bone keeps teeth firmly in place and supports the overlying gum tissue. If either the gums or the bone is damaged by neglect, disease, or sudden infections, even the finest teeth can be lost.
When nice teeth are surrounded by sound bone and firm gums, your smile really shines. We can help you bring a plan to life that rests on solid ground. Whether you need corrective treatment to your teeth's foundation or focused maintenance, we'll help you enjoy the benefits of optimal dental health.
