Happy New Year!

January 11, 2019

Staff Holiday Party! We celebrated in style at Top Golf with our amazing team!

The New Year is always an exciting time filled with refreshed goals and new resolutions. What are your New Year's Resolutions? Getting in shape, eating healthier, reducing stress, and ditching bad habits are some of the most common. But what about your dental health?

Floss: Commit to Flossing! One way to make it easier to remember is by putting a container of dental floss on top of or in front of your toothbrush or toothpaste so you have to touch it every time you brush. Also, stash a container in your purse or in your car so you can floss on the go if you forget at home.

Schedule a Dental Appointment: Actually, book both your cleaning appointments at the same time! This way you are set for the year. Set the appointment with an alarm in your phone calendar and make sure you receive reminders from us so you actually make it to these appointments.

Cut back on sugar: Cutting back on sugar can cut your risk for tooth decay considerably. If one of your other resolutions is to eat healthier or get in shape, this goes hand in hand!

Congratulations to our Winner!

New Year, New Insurance

Most dental insurance benefits "renew" in January. What does this mean for you? You get to start the year with a clean slate and a full dental maximum. This is a great time to plan out your treatment. If you know you have treatment that needs to be done that will use up a good chunk of your insurance, now is the time to get scheduled at our dental office in Roselle, IL! If you are unsure about when your benefits renew, you can check with your dental insurance carrier. Remember, putting off dental care is not in your best interest. Keep those pearly whites healthy!

Weak teeth, Broken teeth, Root Canals - Oh My!

You're enjoying a delicious handful of sugar-coated peanuts...actually, a second handful that you almost passed up. You bite down and hear a loud crunch, which just didn't seem right. Your tongue makes a pulse-spiking discovery: A significant chunk of your upper left molar fractured, and the piece has already disappeared into the abyss.

While panic threatens to ruin your day, the chances are high that your broken tooth near Roselle, IL will continue functioning for years. Teeth, the hardest substance in our bodies, undergo a tremendous amount of stress every day. This rigid, crystal structure often develops small cracks, especially if filled with metal years ago. Thousands of chewing cycles combine with rapid changes in temperature from food and drink. The constant stress creates expanding micro-fractures that weaken the tooth.

It's easy to blame the peanuts, but they're just the final straw. Even so, most broken teeth don't need removal. Healthy function is often just an appointment or two away. Modern Essence Dentistry can assess the damange and the integrity of the remaining tooth. When we consider the options to preserve even one broken tooth, we use a conservative philosophy in our approach. Modern dental materials allow us to return teeth to full strength easier than ever before.

When the root canal of a tooth becomes infected, it can lead to serious dental problems including bone and tooth loss. In order to treat deep infections within a tooth, root canal therapy may be required. This treatment can save a tooth from extraction, but it can't preserve tissue that has already been lost to decay. In many cases, a dental crown is the best way to ensure the future health of a tooth following a root canal. Crowns offer structural support, protection, preservation, durability, and realistic appearance.

If you're looking for a way to bridge the gap created by missing teeth, a traditional bridge is the answer. Two or more crowns on either side of the gap hold and support a false tooth. Bridges help to restore you smile, allow you to properly chew and speak, distribute the forces in your bite, and prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position.

Leaving a compromised tooth untreated is an option, but not without serious risk. Ultimately, the danger of losing the tooth runs much higher than if you commit to preserving it. More of the tooth may break away or a cavity may form in the exposed area. Every traumatic event a tooth experiences puts more strain on the fragile nerve inside, making an abscess more likely.

Are your teeth not up to snuff? Now is a great time to assess those troubled areas and see if a crown or bridge is right for you. Give us a call Modern Essence Dentistry today at 1-630-592-8109.
